Saturday Wheel Throwing Workshop, ages 10 and up

First time introductory class for throwing pottery on the wheel- learn all the steps from start to finish with hands on guidance and exploration. Also for students new to wheel throwing. You will make 1-3 pieces ( small bowls, cups, etc. ) during the first 2 hour session and schedule a second visit two weeks or soon after to glaze ( paint ) your pieces. 2 firings/ instruction/and materials included. Please allow 3-5 weeks to pick up your pottery. ( 4 spots available each week ) ( 1-6 group rate for a special event time : Friday or Saturday 7-9 pm by appointment only ). Please arrange at first lesson, reimbursement for sibling discount.

6 week Homeschool Wheelthrowing class, ages 10+

In this once a week introductory to intermediate wheel throwing class which is held under my covered outdoor pottery veranda( for inclement weather- my climate controlled casita studio), we will learn the dynamics of building and experimenting on the potter’s wheel. With all l supplies included, you will learn all of the technical steps of creating pottery on the wheel and incorporate expressive elements of hand building into basic functional forms: bowls, cups, vases, and small plates. If you are an intermediate potter ( you have at least 12 hours of instruction ), you will purchase a bag of clay for $30 to be used during the 6 weeks. As an intermediate potter, we will work on combined forms based on your sketches. You will 3-7 pieces that will be fired twice and underglazed/ glazed ( painted by you ) and fired twice. Your work will be returned to you for pick up in 4-6 weeks.

6 week Wheel throwing class, teen/adult

Saturday Open Studio Hand Building, all ages

Handbuilding (15 spots available ) : Pay by the project covers two visits ( 2 visits at 2 hours each )- 1st to build and second to glaze
Choose a small (1-2 lbs of clay), medium ( 2- 3 lbs of clay- additional $40 upon building completion), or large ( 3-4 lbs- additional $20 upon building completion) earthenware or stoneware project or the project of the month to build with plenty of individualized instruction with your design in mind. Larger or more detailed projects priced individually. During your first 1.5- 2 hour of hand building session, you will complete your project. In several weeks, after your work is properly dried and fired, you will come back for a glazing session followed by a second firing . Your project will be ready in 4- 6 weeks from its conception .

Prices:

X Small ( beads,whistles, trinkets etc) $35 less than 1 lb. of clay
Small ( cups, lidded boxes,w. ) $45 1- 1.5 lbs. Of clay
Medium (bowls, plates,trays, candle sticks, lanterns, birdhouses,windchimes, etc) 1.5 - 2 lbs of clay $60
Large ( platter, larger bowls, larger cross, large luminarie etc. ) detailed 1.5- 2.5 lbs of clay $85

In this once a week introductory to intermediate hand building ceramics class held on my covered outdoor pottery veranda ( for inclement weather- my casita or home sunroom, we will learn the foundations of hand building with clay as sculpture, functionality, and personal expression using pinch, coil, and relief methods. You will also incorporate under glazing and glazing. Projects will be fired twice and returned to you in 4-6 weeks. 3 seats minimum for this class.

Raku Workshop with Leroy Grubbs

Mud Club Workshop : Join master ceramicist, Leroy Grubbs in his hands on entirely outdoor raku workshop- rainor shine. bring already fired / low fire ( raku too) OR come with 1-4 bisqued pieces ( no larger than 6 in tall x 5 in wide) that you would like to glaze( must bring a glaze to swap and share) from 9-9:45 am. Those not glazing will help set up for firing.. Additionally, if you have lidded metal trash cans , we could use a few more. We will cover: naked raku,horsehair firing, copper, crackle, saggar and more . Bring : your lunch,combustibles, and share list ( see text). Inclement weather we will worth through it

At Sacred Heart Artists Guild, I am dedicated to providing art instruction that sparks creativity as well as cherishes truth, natural beauty, and order in the world. In support of our artists, I provide appropriate training and the tools needed for your success in clay works by hand and or by wheel. We offer studio time, as well as memberships if you plan to use our studio frequently. We also offer booking of the studio for private events/parties. Available for 2 hour sessions, Fridays 5 - 9 pm.
