Classes
First time introductory class for throwing pottery on the wheel- learn all the steps from start to finish with hands on guidance and exploration. You will make 1-3 pieces ( small bowls, cups, etc. ) during the first 2 hour session and schedule a second visit two weeks or soon after to glaze ( paint ) your pieces. 2 firings/ instruction/and materials included. Please allow 3-5 weeks to pick up your pottery. ( 4 spots available each week ) ( 1-6 group rate for a special event time : Friday or Saturday 7-9 pm by appointment only ). Please arrange at first lesson, reimbursement for sibling discount.
In this once a week introductory to intermediate wheel throwing class which is held under my covered outdoor pottery veranda( for inclement weather- my studio or home sunroom), we will learn the dynamics of building and experimenting on the potter’s wheel. With all l supplies included, you will learn all of the technical steps of creating pottery on the wheel and incorporate expressive elements of hand building into basic functional forms: bowls, cups, vases, and small plates. If you are an intermediate potter ( you have at least 12 hours of instruction ), you will purchase a bag of clay for $30 to be used during the 6 weeks. As an intermediate potter, we will work on combined forms based on your sketches. You will 3-7 pieces that will be fired twice and underglazed/ glazed ( painted by you ) and fired twice. Back by popular demand ! Join master ceramicist and my mentor, Leroy Grubbs in this hands on ( entirely outside )raku workshop- rain or shine. Bring already fired and glazed with low fire or raku glazes OR come with 1-4 bisqueware pieces ( no larger than 6in tall x 5in wide ) that you would like to glaze or prepare surfaces ( must bring a glaze to swap and share ) at 9 am- 9:45 am. Those who are not glazing can help set up with Leroy. Additionally if you have lidded metal trash cans, we could use a few more.

Bring : Your Lunch/ drink , a garbage bag full of combustibles (some kindling - newspaper, hay, pine needles,sawdust, gerbil bedding etc
Share : let Julie know after booking what you can bring - anyone who can get horse hair, feathers,copper wire,dried seaweed, grasses, flowers, sawdust, copper carbonate aluminum foil, and table salt.

At Sacred Heart Artists Guild, I am dedicated to providing art instruction that sparks creativity as well as cherishes truth, natural beauty, and order in the world. In support of our artists, I provide appropriate training and the tools needed for your success in clay works by hand and or by wheel. We offer studio time, as well as memberships if you plan to use our studio frequently. We also offer booking of the studio for private events/parties. Available for 2 hour sessions, Fridays 5 - 9 pm.
